    Best Post-Breakup Songs

    By Vicki Karigiannis
    Published November 13, 2009

We’ve all been there, having had to mend a broken heart. Sometimes, though, sad and depressing music just won’t cut it. That’s why we’ve got a playlist for upbeat and cathartic songs to listen to, post-breakup. Check out eight tunes to help you truly get over him!

    Song:
     “Breakin’ Up” by Rilo Kiley
Key lyrics: “Betrayal is a thorny crown/You wear it well/Just like a king/Revenge is the saddest thing/Honey, I'm afraid to say/You deserve everything”
Perfect for: When your no-good ex truly broke your heart, and you have no qualms about wishing him ill.

    Song:
“You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette
Key lyrics: “And I'm here to remind you/Of the mess you left when you went away/It's not fair to deny me/Of the cross I bear that you gave to me/You, you, you oughta know”
    Perfect for:
When you just want to vent about what a jerk your man was.

    Song:
“Nothing Better” by Postal Service (feat. Jen Wood)
    Key lyrics:
“I feel must interject here/You're getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself/With these revisions and gaps in history/So let me help you remember/I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear/I've prepared a lecture on why I have to leave”
Perfect for: When you realize your obtuse man really could not get the hint that you wanted out.

    Song:
    “So What” by Pink
    Key lyrics: “
So what, I’m still a rock star/I’ve got my rock moves, and I don’t need you/And guess what/I’m having more fun/And now that we’re done/I’m going to show you tonight”
    Perfect for:
When you want to show off how great you’re doing being a fabulous single woman.

    Song:
“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor
Key lyrics: “Go on now, go/Walk out the door/Just turn around now/Because you're not welcome anymore/Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye/You think I'd crumble/You think I'd lay down and die/Oh no, not I/I will survive”
    Perfect for:
When your ex comes back begging for a second chance, but you’ve moved on!

    Song:
    “Irreplaceable” by Beyoncé
Key lyrics: “So since I’m not your everything/How about I'll be nothing, nothing at all to you/Baby, I won't shed a tear for you, I won't lose a wink of sleep/Because the truth of the matter is, replacing you is so easy”
    Perfect for:
When you have no regrets about letting your man go, because you know you’ll end up finding someone better.

    Song:
“Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood
Key lyrics: “And he don't know/That I dug my key into the side/Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive/Carved my name into his leather seats/I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights/Slashed a hole in all 4 tires/Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats”
    Perfect for:
When your two-timing ex thought he could do better by running into the arms of another woman. (As if!)

    Song:
“Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson
Key lyrics: “Since you’ve been gone/I can breathe for the first time/I’m so movin’ on, yeah, yeah/Thanks to you/Now I get, I get what I want”
    Perfect for:
When you’ve finally got that sense of relief that your ex is out of your life for good.

Phil Collins - I Don't Care Anymore is also good when you are in the angry stage of breaking up.
