How to Spice Up a First Date

When it comes to first dates, there are the typical things a twosome usually does, such as going out for coffee or grabbing a bite to eat. However, the same ideas can get old fast, so we’ve come up with fun and original alternatives to five classic dates. Try them the next time you go out with a new cutie, and it may just guarantee a second date!

    Date #1:
    Coffee
Mix it up: When it comes to a first date, coffee is usually the safest and easiest choice. Much like coffee itself, sweeten the date up a bit by avoiding Starbucks and going to your not-so-typical coffee place. For example, find a cozy-looking locale that has comfortable chairs and has board games and decks of cards on-hand that will allow you to get to know one another over a cup of java and a hard-core game of Scrabble.

    Date #2:
    Movies
Mix it up: Sure, you can always go to the multiplex cinema and catch the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but if you and your date are avid movie buffs, why not visit your local arthouse theatre to catch a cool documentary or indie flick. Even better, if a film festival is going on in your area, why not check out a couple of movies together?

    Date #3:
    Drinks
Mix it up: Getting together for a drink during happy hour is a common date idea for busy professionals, but why not get your drink on in a different way? Is there a wine festival going on in town where you and your date can sample vino from around the world? Or if there is a brewpub in your city, stop by for a burger and see if German beer is any better than your local brew. (Drink in moderation, though: over-drinking is a big first date no-no.)

    Date #4:
    Dinner
Mix it up: You and your date need to eat, but avoid going all-out (and spending a fortune) at a fancy restaurant. One neat idea is to hop from restaurant to restaurant for each course, such as trying out a hip eatery for dinner (perhaps one that requires you to eat on the floor) and then going to a local pie shop for coffee and dessert.

    Date #5:
    Comedy club
Mix it up: Going to a comedy club for a first date is a great way to break any jitters you may have. Even better? Being a part of the act! Try dropping by an improv class one afternoon and taking a stab at being silly. You may just have a knack for it, and it’ll surely be a date you and him won’t soon forget!
